Vancouver Island Birds is an online magazine featuring photographs to celebrate and enjoy the birds of Vancouver Island. The purpose of this website is to share the many birds that I have been fortunate enough to encounter, enjoy, and photograph. My hope is that as many non-birders as possible will also enjoy and develop an appreciation for birds and nature just as I have. Much is known about birds and nature but most of that knowledge is in the minds and hands of a few scientists and serious birders. There is a huge chasm between what is known by government scientists and academic institutions and what is known by the general public. I'm not referring to detailed scientific information. I'm referring to general knowledge like just the names of the bird species and other organisms we have in our local environment. People can only care about what they know and like, and there is much to like about birds and nature. With only four years of birding and bird photography, I am neither an authority on birds nor photography. But pictures don't lie, and I'm counting on the images to inspire you to get interested in the birds and nature. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but it is worth much more when shared with others. In the spirit of sharing and promoting interest in birds, nature, and conservation, it is my pleasure to present VANCOUVER ISLAND BIRDS.
