SUMMER MIGRANTS
Summer migrants are birds that migrate from the south for the nesting season. Many continue north to the boreal forest and Arctic tundra but a fair number do stop in more temperate locations like Vancouver Island for their summer homes. It is a very interesting time to see mating rituals, nest building, incubation, feeding the young, and fledglings. The majority are passerines or perching birds such as warblers, vireos, and flycatchers, but there other amazing species and stories such as the Osprey, Turkey Vulture, and Caspian Tern.
